Due to its strategic position, La Rioja has been for centuries, and depending on the period, a border region<\/strong> between the kingdoms of Navarre, Castile and also Al-Andalus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although some castles have completely disappeared today, as is the case of the castle of Cellorigo, others have been perfectly restored, as is the case of the castles of Cuzcurrita de R\u00edo Tir\u00f3n, Sajazarra and Agoncillo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#1 Aguas Mansas Castle in Agoncillo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Castle of Aguas Mansas<\/strong> was built during the 13th and 14th centuries. It has a rectangular ground plan with square towers at its four corners.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coat of arms of the Calatrava Cross<\/strong> appears on the fa\u00e7ade located on the eastern fa\u00e7ade, as a sign of belonging to the House of Medrano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has now been fitted out to house the municipal buildings<\/strong> of Agoncillo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#2 Arnedo Castle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Arnedo Castle was the most important in the area<\/strong> during the Middle Ages, passing from Muslim to Christian hands on several occasions until it was finally conquered by the Christians in the 11th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2016 and 2018, it was restored and reopened to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
